Wallachia

I think in particular Bathory and Burzum inspired me the most since both of them being (more or less) one man projects. The mid era Bathory was a great influence with Under The Sign…, Blood Fire Death and Hammerheart most of all. And I have as much a background with a lot of the death metal things that evolved when I was a kid. The whole Tampa scene with Deicide and Morbid Angel first and foremost. Also bands like Suffocation, Morgoth, Pyogenesis, Sinister, Primordial, Windir, Dissection, Rotting Christ and so on. All these bands inspired me in one way or another to shape my own band. And there are more recent influences like Wolves In The Throne Room with their hypnotic and special sound, Dornenreich, Deathspell Omega, Arkhon Infaustus, Xasthur. [Metal Rage]

Wallachia was formed by Lars in Steinkjer, Norway during 1992. In 1996 the first demo – recorded in November of 95 with session member Eystein Garberg (Lumsk) – was released. In 1997 Velvet Music International re-released the demo as a self-titled EP.

When I started Wallachia I was very much inspired by the epic Bathory albums Blood Fire Death and Hammerheart as well as the Hellenic scene with bands like Rotting Christ, Necromantia and Varathron, Burzum, Emperor, Samael, Ancient Rites, Master’s Hammer, Mayhemic Truth. That were the biggest influences for me and the sound of Wallachia. [Shoot me Again]

During the winter of 1999 the debut Wallachia album was recorded with session drummers Lars Erik Vesterdal and Mikael Duna (Hellstorm).

Wallachia fell silent for ten years, until in 2009 Twilight released the album Ceremony of Ascension (although music for this album was being written since 1998), and in November 2012 their latest album, Shunya, was unleashed!
